MMR Antibody Screen Overview
The MMR Antibody Screen is an IgG serology panel testing immunity to measles (rubeola), mumps, and rubella via ELISA on a single serum sample, confirming protection from prior infection or vaccination against these highly contagious viral diseases.
Indications of MMR Antibody Screen
Pre-employment screening for healthcare workers; college entry requirements; pregnancy planning (rubella immunity critical); international travel to outbreak areas; immunocompromised patients; or confirming vaccination status when records unavailable.
Patient Preparation/Instructions
No fasting required; collect 3-5 mL venous blood in SST/red-top tube, allow clotting, centrifuge promptly. Avoid recent MMR vaccination (wait 6 weeks) or gamma globulin; disclose immune status or recent infections.
Typical Reference Values
Typically: <0.90 Negative (no immunity)
0.91-1.09 Equivocal (retest)
≥1.10 Positive (immune) for each—measles IgG, mumps IgG, rubella IgG.
Lab-specific ranges apply; all three positive = fully immune.
Report Turnaround
Results generally ready in 1-5 days; reflex titer confirmation adds 1-2 days depending on lab volume.
